Manager, Product Development

Responsible for coordination and output of the Product Development Department. Manages a group of senior and junior engineers to accomplish the Company’s research and development objectives. Insures project planning and control. General administration tasks related to spending, the department budget, as well as coordination and reporting of the Development projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Insures the approved Development projects are executed according to priority, plan, and budget.
Coordinates to gain resources internally (engineering, other parts of the organization) or externally to insure that the individual projects are manned adequately, with individuals having the proper competencies.
Insures process to bring new product development to sales/marketing/engineering is successful.
Plans overall development tasks, funding, manpower requirements and schedules for development projects and department budget.
Communicates with Product Managers, Product Engineers, Sales staff, commissioning, etc., to validate future needs and lead the creative and idea generation process for future development projects.
Promote process of innovation and idea generation, with focus on developing business/project plans for new products or research activities.
Leads local activities to improve and protect the IP position of FLS, including promotion of programs to file invention disclosures / patent applications, review of competitors patents, etc.
B.S. in Metallurgy or Mechanical/Chemical engineering minimum, M.S. preferred, with a strong background in process/systems engineering.
Demonstrated experience in managing a creative engineering group, and coordination of activities/resources at multiple sites/locations.
Detailed knowledge of mineral processing processes, products, and applications.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to work cross-culturally.
Knowledge of invention disclosure and patent application procedures and filing requirements.
Demonstrated leadership in creativity.
