Mechanical Estimating Engineer - (Global Estimating/Material Handling)

This position will have the responsibilities of performing preliminary mechanical designs for belt conveyors, overland conveyors, feeders, and other mechanical systems related to material handling systems such as; dust collection systems, air and water piping, etc. The position will require review of mechanical specifications from clients, completion of data sheets and bid forms, submittal and evaluation of RFQ’s for mechanical equipment and conveyor components, performing both technical and commercial evaluations, preparing technical descriptions of mechanical equipment and components for heavy industrial, material handling systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other responsibilities may be assigned):
·Perform preliminary design of conveying systems utilizing software such as: Belt Analyst ™, Pro-Belt, Sidewinder, etc.
· Perform material quantity take-offs (MTO) for conveying systems, and ancillary systems such as: dust collection systems, piping systems, ducting, etc.
·Perform review of client specifications and identify/define associated mechanical requirements.
·Gather necessary information from a variety of data sources including AutoCAD drawings, computer models, historical data, etc.
·Ability to work well in a group setting and coordinate information from other offices globally.
· Good technical writing skills. Ability to accurately describe, in written format, the equipment and materials which have been estimated.
·Ability to read and understand flowsheets and drawings for material handling systems.
·Ability to visualize and identify material handling system requirements for belt conveyors and systems.
Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering and five to ten years progressive experience in mechanical engineering design, cost engineering/estimating, and proposal preparation; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures. Ability to write technical portions of proposals and possess written communication skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, engineers, clients, and customers. Fluency in Spanish a plus.
Applied engineering mathematics, statistics, and business and economic analysis.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer literacy and use of spreadsheets, databases, word processing, CAD, and conveyor belt design software a must. Knowledge of mechanical systems. Experience as a project engineer and developed relationships with equipment and component vendors in the material handling industry a plus.
